October A.S.C. Newsletter 2019

Hello Parents and Caregivers,

September 30th marks the annual Orange Shirt Day and is a time in Canadian history of great sadness but is a time to reflect and to make sure that such tragedies never happen again. Today we wear orange and say “Every Child Matters”!

Autumn is here now and the leaves are falling. With the cooler weather comes the rain and we must dress appropriately for it. Pack extra socks because puddles are always fun to jump in! Every day we play outside rain or shine. Sometimes we get the use of the Vedder Elementary School gymnasium and sometimes we do not, so we’ll be outside playing as the weather permits.

Lately we have found that most of the children have either eaten all of their snacks at school and/or have forgotten to save one for After School Care. If possible, please send an extra one with them. If they don’t have something to eat, we will provide them with one and rest assured, we will never let your child go hungry.

Our monthly theme is “Fall Harvest” and with that comes many celebrations in respect to; Orange Shirt Day, Thanksgiving, National Color Day and Halloween to name a few.

Mid October we will be making a craft with Ms. Loni and the children will be making owls. If you wouldn’t mind, could you send toilet paper rolls for this craft. It would be greatly appreciated!

We will be having a Halloween party on October 31st. Your child may dress up in their costume during After School Care hours. If you would rather opt out of wearing a costume, then you may wear orange and black. With the costumes we ask that there be no weapons or gore. Your child may wish to bring a treat to share please make sure it is peanut-free/treenut-free or that it doesn’t contain any traces of them. Fruit or vegetables are always great to have and help the growing brain to grow. Plus, the less chance of a sugar overload! There will be fun games played inside and outside.

• September 30th Orange Shirt Day (Wear something orange today!)
• October 14th Thanksgiving (No School, No After School Care)
